Packaging process

Whenever I receive a gift from my dear friend or whenever I buy something with a beautiful package for myself, I always keep the nice papers, ribbons, etc. For me, it is hard to throw them away. Not only the actual items but also the packaging elements are precious to me. I want to keep the memory of the moment.

I believe there is an interaction between the customer, the product and the packaging. It's important to think about what kinds of experiences we want to give to our customers through the packaging. When the customers open the box, what do we want to show to our customer? How do we want to present our brand images? Do we mind if our packaging ends up in the trash can? In order to provide an unique moment, the packaging process is one of the most essential parts in my process. I would like to provide an extra sentimental value to my customers.

It takes forever to complete one package. In my packaging process, I draw the background images based on our product concept. I scan the images in order to print them out. I also create the postcards which provide the item number, materials and name of the item. Of course, I add my thank you notes and my information. The postcards are different based on the collections (possibility, simplicity, and versatility). So if you want, you can collect them.

It is a time consuming process to print, cut, fold and assemble each paper. However when I think about each customer's feelings, it is worth it. Each package is so essential and unique. I hope the packaging identifies with the Sublime Experiment's brand images.

RISD Alumni Art Sale 2010

This was my first time participating in the RISD Alumni Art Sale. This year, there were around 175 alumni members at the sale.
It was big! Unfortunately, I didn't have any chance to walk around and see what other artists were doing. It was sad not to see other artists' work in person, but on the other hand, I was pretty busy talking to people and selling my work. I can't complain about that! There were so many many people! It was such a great place to gain exposure.

After participating in the RISD Art Sale and the Brooklyn Indie Market, I am interested in learning how the location of sales affects people's behaviors and minds. If you buy something at the RISD Art sale, does it have meaning to you? Why is this meaningful to you? How about the museum stores and galleries? Do you feel different? Where do you find the value? It's fascinating to examine how people react in different places.

From this experience, I came up with a better idea for the next RISD Alumni Sale. It was an exciting chance to experiment the art market beyond the gallery and museum culture.

Thank you everyone for stopping by and supporting my work!

RISD Alumni sale

I went to the RISD Student Sales on the 24th of April, 2010 and I took these photos. It was so wonderful weather.!! I am praying for great weather this Saturday!

New Items : "Gorrow with Ring" and "Gorrow with Long Post"

At the brooklyn indie market, people really loved this ring and this pair of earrings!! So I got some confidences to put them on my collection! I haven't decided on the price yet since it took so long to sew each little piece together. But I will find a way to sew them together more easily so I can save time and sell it at a reasonable price.
Anyway, I wanted to share my new items with all of you. I haven't taken a professional photo yet. Hope you don't mind it! I am looking forward to taking some great photos.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or comments.

Brooklyn Indie Market

I participated in the Brooklyn Indie Market on the 11th of April 2010. It was a gorgeous day. Thanks god! I just came back to Providence and I am still recovering from the Sunday. I never tried this kind of market before so it was great to have the experiences. The good thing about attending the market was that I got to meet and talk to buyers in person. It was interesting to observe how people responded to my jewelry. After participating in this market, I learned a lot and came up with new ideas to prepare my next sales.

I never visited the area before so I didn't have any ideas about what the area looked like. Actually, the market was located in a very charming area in Brooklyn. Even though,  I didn't have time to walk around the area, I would like to live there. I got a pretty good feeling about the area!

In terms of the market, there were around 13 vendors at the market. It was pretty small. I wouldn't say the size is good or bad since I don't have any other experiences with participating in a big market. I saw many 20-something women and 30-something women who brought their stroller and babies. We opened the market at 11 am. My sale was slow until 1 pm. After 1 pm, many people were coming to the market continuously. But I wish there were more crowd. : ) You know selling is great with many people. Many of our friends in NYC and Brooklyn also came by to cheer us up! Thank you all for coming and supporting! I also would like to give a special thanks to my dearest friend, Joo Hyun who was participating in the market with me! I will see you all at the RISD Alumni sale on the 1st of May!
