In 2010, I was invited to LOOT, an exhibition at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC. At that time, I wanted to bring new work to the show, so I took my time to focus and develop my studio work. While I was in the process of exploring form using Velcro, the Mara Mejo came about naturally. When we participated in the fall and holiday risd sales event that followed, the Mara Mejo with Long Post became our best selling item both times!
The name of this piece, Mara, means to roll and Mejo means to link together in Korean.
This version of Mara takes on the function of a pair of earrings, hence the addition of "with Long Post" to the "Mara Mejo" name. It is made of Velcro and Sterling Silver, measures about 1.25 inch (3.5 cm) in diameter, and comes in different variations in colors and sizes.
